I've been at home in Kansas this week figuring out THE DRESS with Mom. We decided early on that she (and my grandma, Phyllis) would make it, just like grandma made Susan's dress, and in the same color she wore - hunter green.
It's been a bit of a struggle - we've been going back and forth between two patterns, and the 1500 mile distance has not helped! I initially pined for this Marfy pattern, but when I got home it just wasn't working - the neckline was not as expected, and it was a little too plain and made for skinnier ladies. So we went with the backup pattern, which my mom had also been working with.
For purposes of practicing, we decided that Mom would make a "party dress" for practice - shorter and in a different color. And it's not quite done - there's a lot of hemming and stuff that Mom is putting off so that she can get the wedding dress done before I leave on Labor Day. But it's mostly done! And (save a few issues that we've got figured out) it fits! Here it is:
Ignore my greasy face and hair - but do notice the 30 pounds I've lost! Susan also requests that you ignore the radiator. Check it out from more angles:
I'm super thrilled with it. Can't wait for the real dress, which will be floor-length and dark green!
Today marks exactly one month until the wedding! We are figuring out all kinds of things, from food to music to favors. Please check back soon for an important announcement about food at the wedding - our plans have changed. And if you haven't yet, please please please RSVP!

you should keep the party dress and do a wardrobe change for the reception like RICH people do!
